About Big Band Society
The Big Band society is one of the longest running societies in the Hull University Union. At the beginning of every new academic year, we audition new players and then get rehearsals underway. We frequently gig at John McCarthy Bar in Hull University Union and over venues in the Hull area. In mid-2013 we had the honour of performing at The Good Fellowship Inn with guest trumpeter Steve Parry, a well-known musician who frequently performs with artists including Jamiroquai and Corinne Bailey Rae. This year, we are organising several exciting collaborations and inviting talented guests to run our masterclasses. For those of you who don’t play, you can be a social member! Join in with our socials and joint socials for things like trips to Big Fun, PAVE, meals out and more! More importantly, it allows you free entry to all our gigs ran by us! If music technology is your thing, this is a great opportunity for you to manage the sound, lighting and the recording of our band as a Tech member. Interested in getting involved or want to hire us? Check us out on Facebook, Instagram and YouTube and please feel free to get in touch! All of our clubs and societies are run by a committee.
A committee is a team of people that lead, organise and publicise a group within your Students’ Union.
It can be really rewarding as well as being a great way to gain experience and invaluable skills for your future career.
