First of all, it is REALLY IMPORTANT to join the Facebook group ‘Hull University Riding Club 2019-2020. We also have an Instagram @hulluniversityriding. All details of events & riding lessons are conveyed on Facebook and we will be available to chat with at Fresher’s Fair. Hull University Riding Club one of the friendliest & fastest growing clubs in Hull’s Athletic Union, with over 50 members. The club welcomes all abilities of rider from those who have no experience at all and want to try a new sport, to seasoned competition riders. We have weekly lessons every Wednesday afternoon catering for all levels at the Oxmardyke Equestrian Centre and the team trains at Bishop Burton College which boasts some of the best equestrian facilities in the country including six arenas, rider fitness suite and a mechanical dressage horse. Polo sessions will run regularly throughout the year and we welcome riders of any ability to come down and give it a try! For those who wish to compete we have a team competing in BUCS (British Universities & Colleges Sport) which combines dressage and show jumping, alongside a development team that will compete in friendly competitions and varsity in both dressage and show jumping also. Any advanced rider is welcome to try out for the team. Our teams are ran by our captains Holly and Sophie who organise the competitions and training sessions at Bishop Burton. Socialising is a huge part of the club, and a great way to make new friends and help you settle into university. Our senior members are super friendly and will make an effort to help new members find their feet. We hold traditional sports socials every Wednesday night run by our Social Sec’s Mairéad and Libby, including bar crawls, theme nights, joint socials with other teams and lots of games. We also attend the Athletic Union’s annual sports tour for sun, sea and sangria...guaranteed to be the best week of your life! Finally, there will be plenty of opportunities to get glammed up for the Athletic Union Ball and Trophy Presentation that we are a part of. There will also be club meals and other casual events organised to keep your calendars full, and to keep your committee busy! We hope to meet you all soon.
All of our clubs and societies are run by a committee.
A committee is a team of people that lead, organise and publicise a group within your Students’ Union.
It can be really rewarding as well as being a great way to gain experience and invaluable skills for your future career.
