Academic Reps

Academic Representatives are students just like you! They exist to represent your views and concerns on an academic level to the people who run courses at the University of Hull.

At the start of each academic year, Reps sign up to raise any academic issues their cohort may be experiencing or to communicate positive feedback with members of staff at the University. This happens through Student-Staff Forums, a partnership between Hull University Union and the University of Hull, which bring Reps and staff together to discuss the academic experience.

Have you or anyone on your course experienced any academic issues? If so, check out the Find Your Rep section below for support or Become A Rep yourself!

As a Rep you can make real change and help fellow students get the most from their course.

With ongoing training and development opportunities, you'll be supported to make change by both Hull University Students' Union and the University of Hull. Take a look below to see how you can get involved in academic representation.

Applications for 2021/22 Course Reps are now open.

You can apply by completing the online nomination form.

Faculty Reps represent students at faculty level and work closely with Course Reps, University staff and the President of Education.

This is a fantastic volunteer opportunity for experience and CV building and is perfect for those with drive, initiative, and determination to play a vital role in student representation. Faculty Reps work with senior staff at the University of Hull and have a seat on Union Council, enabling them to have a say in Hull University Students' Union governance and policy.

Deputy Faculty Reps will work closely with the Faculty Rep and support them on projects and campaigns, also stepping in to attend – and in some cases chair – meetings, where necessary.

More information can be found in the role descriptions below:

Since 2019/20, postgraduate taught and research students have had a separate academic representation system from undergraduates, in the hope that this will better meet students' needs.

All faculties will have both a Postgraduate Taught Faculty Rep and Postgraduate Research Faculty Rep. Read the Postgraduate Faculty Rep role description. If you would like to find out more about these positions, or postgraduate representation in general, please email [email protected].

Student-Staff Forums are meetings that take place typically twice a Trimester between Course Representatives and University Staff. The meetings are jointly led by a student chair and staff co-chair and are a space for members to discuss any business relating to the overall student experience, bringing about actions for members to work on in order to improve this.
