Job Roles

There are multiple positions to run for - whether it is a full-time paid position, a part-time role you take up alongside your studies or sitting on the Board of Trustees as a Student Trustee, all are equally rewarding. Presidents

Presidents are full-time, paid representatives who take their positions for a year. As part of their role they also act as trustees of Hull University Union , taking responsibility for the strategic direction of your union, its finances and governance. Each of the five Presidents are responsible for a specific zone, supporting the Part-Time Officers in their zone to achieve their individual objectives whilst also working on joint projects.

Student Trustees

Student Trustees are important in ensuring that a wide cross section of student views and experience are represented on the Board of Trustees, to support us in our governance and develop Hull University Union’s future direction.

Part-Time Officers

Part-Time Officers work alongside the five full-time Presidents to represent specific groups of students or support a particular area of activity. They are elected by fellow students and take up their role alongside their studies. See below for the Part-Time Officer roles:

The BAME Officer is responsible for representing the interests of Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic students at the University of Hull. The role is to voice the concerns, address the issues of, and improve the educational and social environment for Ethnic Minority Students through a range of way including democratic processes, representation and campaigns.

The Disabled Students’ committee aims to remove the stigma from all disabilities, challenge perceptions and encourage all members of our society to take a positive attitude towards understanding the nature of disability and overcoming prejudices.

The International Students Officer is responsible for representing the interests of international students at the University of Hull. The aim of the role is increase awareness of different types of events on campus catered towards international students and increase participation of international students on campus.

The Part-time Students Officer offers support and advice and aims to foster and develop a community for part-time students at the University of Hull and Hull University Union through a diverse range of activities.

The Raising and Giving Committee (RAG) is responsible for facilitating student fundraising at the University, with the aim of raising money as much money as possible by legitimate means for the benefit of selected local, national and international charities. All members of Hull University Union are eligible to be members of the RAG Committee and all students can join RAG as a volunteer.

The Environment and Ethics Officer will encourage students to live more sustainably and promote environmentally focussed events at the University of Hull and Hull University Union.

LGBT+ aims to support the needs of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender students, ensuring that they have a voice on campus and a place to meet other LGBT+ people. We have a diverse University population and sexual preference and gender identity can mean many different things.

The Postgraduate Research Officer will aim to promote, within the University and Union, an environment favourable for postgraduate research students. They will increase postgraduate student involvement, and represent and support postgraduate research students.

The aim of the role is to hold elected Presidents and Part-time Officers to account and support the zones (Governance, Education, Welfare & Community, Activities and Sport) with their projects and campaigns.

The Hull York Medical School (HYMS) Student Officer offers support and advice and aims to foster and develop a community for HYMS students, they will work to increase HYMS engagement with the Union.

The Mature Students Officer offers support and advice and aims to foster and develop a community for mature students. The Officer will work to implement positive change specifically for mature students.
