A prestigious city with the best of both historical & modern attractions, Newcastle-upon-Tyne is one of the largest cities in the UK and is packed full of things to do for visitors on our coach breaks from culture-ridden museums and Cathedrals to spectacular shopping opportunities.
Visit the impressive Newcastle Cathedral Church of St Nicholas and the Newcastle Castle – a medieval fortress, originally built to guard the bridge over the River Tyne, also being the route of the name of this bustling city.
Another fantastic attraction to see when visiting Newcastle is the renowned Angel of the North. You can also see the famous Tyne Bridge, a beautiful through-arch bridge from Newcastle to Gateshead - craftsmanship which just cannot be missed! Newcastle boasts brilliant shopping opportunities from the Eldon Square Shopping Centre as well as the nearby complex of Gateshead Metro Centre.
Whitby town, an ancient and beautiful sea port with history going as far back as the founding of its famous abbey in 657ad. A trip to Whitby would not be the same without climbing the 199 steps to Whitby Abbey, counting as you go, and exploring the beautiful ruins which tower over the town. Once you’ve made it the view across to the famous whale bones of the West Cliff on the opposite side of the harbour is well worth it.
Offering something for everyone, there are many attractions that are connected to the town's fascinating past, from the Captain Cook Memorial Museum, where you can learn about the famous explorer's life to the Dracula Experience, which guides you through the story and its connection to the town. Explore Whitby’s quirky cobbled streets lined with lots of interesting boutique shops, where you’ll find unique Whitby jet jewellery and other fascinating items.
Enjoy Whitby’s famous fish and chips, with a great choice of places to eat in or take away. No traditional seaside resort would be complete without a good old fashioned Amusement Arcade and Whitby has several of these down near it’s impressive pier by the wide expanse of beautiful sandy beach below the town’s West Cliff.
