Join HUU in sharing Christmas joy by volunteering to help Viking FM arrange presents for disadvantaged children in the local community. We'll be helping Viking FM on Wednesday 4th, 11th and 18th December so feel free to join us for one or all!
Viking FM’s Cash for Kids launches Mission Christmas on Monday 11 November 2019. This is the charity’s flagship campaign where we aim to get a Christmas gift to a child living in poverty who is at risk of waking up to nothing on Christmas Day. Sadly, 1 in every 4 children live in poverty in our region and many families have to prioritise putting food on the table and heating their house at this time, so Christmas can be a luxury some just cannot afford. Cash for Kids asks the public to donate a new and unwrapped gift throughout the campaign so we can ensure it gets to a local child in poverty for Christmas Day. Last year we helped 19,574 local children experience the magic of Christmas and that’s completely down to the local community supporting the campaign.
They don’t do this alone and rely on a team of volunteers to help complete all the applications we get through. This means you! Roles can include:
Sorting gifts donated in to age and sex category
Picking and packing gifts for each beneficiary
Fundraising, as we need to have money available to purchase gifts when we run out
Sometimes admin assistance, so answering phones, counting money
Roles are varied and can change daily. The campaign is very busy but totally rewarding and we would love to have you volunteer and help us to make Christmas magical for a local child.
Refreshments will be provided, there will be a space set out so you can have some lunch if you'd like to bring some pack up or get something to eat from one of the many places in the city centre. More information to follow on where to meet and what to do when you get there.
