As we come to the end of Trimester 2, normally at the Students’ Union we would be looking towards holding our Annual General Meeting (AGM) which is open to all our members. The purpose of this is to reflect over the previous academic year and to do the following:
- Ratify the minutes of the previous meeting (you can view these here)
- Receive the report of the Trustees
- Receiving the financial statements (you can view these here)
- Appointing the auditors
- Approving the list of affiliations
- As well as being able to ask questions to the Trustees.
As per our Articles of Association (15), “it shall be held at such time and place as the Trustees shall think suitable to allow the maximum number of members to attend”. With the COVID-19 pandemic having a significant impact of both the Students’ Union and the University, the Board of Trustees has taken the decision to cancel the 2020 AGM, recognising that we will struggle to hit quoracy during this time. Typically, in previous years, the AGM has struggled to have enough members present for the meeting to be quorate, therefore, this shouldn’t be a significant change.
The board have been able to make this decision due to the temporary changes put in place by the Charity Commission in light of the Pandemic. (See here)
ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
15. ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
HUU shall hold an annual general meeting within 18 months of incorporation and afterwards once in each Academic Year. It shall be held at such time and place as the Trustees shall think suitable to allow the maximum number of Members to attend.
Under normal circumstances, the Annual Accounts are added to the Website prior to the AGM so that members have the opportunity to read them and prepare any questions. We want all our members to be able to view the Accounts and have the opportunity to ask any questions should they wish. We are, therefore, actively encouraging our members to take a look at the Accounts and Affiliations and email [email protected] if you have any questions you wish to ask. Please note, after Friday 22 May this email will no longer be monitored by Isobel, but by another member of the team.
