WHAT: Hull University Union Climate Strike (open to both students and staff)
WHERE: Outside Student Central Building
WHEN: Friday 20 September, 10am – 11am
I am excited to be able to announce and release further details about Hull University Union’s planned Climate Strike on Friday 20 September (some of you may have heard about this from our social media already). We have informed the Vice-Chancellor and Registrar of our intentions and they are in full support of the action.
On Friday 20 September, Hull University Union will be joining in with the massive global day of action and striking for climate justice. We will shut down our services and operations as all work will stop for an hour between 10am - 11am. This is the beginning of a week of action all over the world! The demonstrations coincide with the United Nations Climate Action Summit, which starts on 23 September.
It is important that we stand in solidarity with the global strikes and other Students’ Unions as we get involved with shaping the way society meets the needs of future generations and the planet.
We invite you to join us outside the front of Student Central (with placards if you want to – see our Pizza and Placard Making event below!) and stand in solidarity with your Students’ Union against climate change.
Following this, we will make our way to the strikes at Queen’s Garden in the city for the global strikes. We will be getting the bus from the front of campus at 10:53am if you want to join us at this point.
Pizza and Placard Making!
WHAT: Pizza and Placard Making – HUU Climate Strike
WHERE: Hull University Union, Student Central, Johnny Mac/Scoop Ground Floor
WHEN: Thursday 19 September, 12pm – 1pm
In preparation for the strike, join me for ‘Pizza and Placard Making’ as we get crafting, making friends, chatting about climate change and eating pizza! Even if you are unable to make the strike itself, feel free to drop by this event, get stuck in and help out!
If you want any further information or questions, feel free to drop me an email [email protected] or drop by the President Office! We also have lots of cardboard in our office for anyone wanting to make placards!
I look forward to seeing you at the strike!
