Become a HUSU Student Trustee

HUSU are currently looking for Student Trustees to join our Trustee Board this year.

As a Student Trustee you'll play a vital role at HUSU and gain valuable skills and experience – you can learn more about how Students' Union and Charities are run and develop a number of skills which can help to improve your employability, including Strategic planning; Financial/budget Management and decision making.

HUSU's Board of Trustees

The Board of Trustees of Hull University Union Limited is made up of appointed external trustees, five elected student officer trustees (Presidents) and appointed student trustees. The Trustee Board is the ultimate decision making body at HUSU and has overall responsibility for charity governance, budget and strategy, and plays an essential role in delivering HUSU's Strategy.

Who can become a Student Trustee?

Each Student Trustee must be a Student at the time of their appointment (and shall continue to be a Student for the duration of their term as a Student Trustee).

The term of office for the role is two years commencing in accordance with our Bye-Laws.

A Student Trustee may serve a maximum of two terms, which may either be consecutive or non-consecutive. A Student Trustee must stand down for a minimum of a year after two terms.

Applicants for the roles will be interviewed by an Appointments Panel, with results announced week commencing 24th May. Training will begin shortly afterwards, including attending a Trustee Board meeting in June as observers, then successful applicants attending their first Trustee Board Meeting in July as registered trustees.

Student Trustee Responsibilities

Student Trustees are expected to attend four trustee board meetings a year in addition to trustee away days, usually held in January and July.

Student Trustees are also invited to join at least one Board Committee, which normally meet four times a year.

All of HUSU's Trustees and Directors are expected to adopt and follow Nolan’s Seven Principles of Public Life and also sign up to the HUSU Trustee and Director Code of Conduct.
