Many other universities in the UK, our Varsity rivals at the University of Lincoln for example, have on-campus GP services for students.
Whilst there are a number of GP practices in the local area having one on-campus would allow for a team of GP's to be specialised towards student issues. Students have a higher rate of mental health concerns that, according to many students, the local GP practices are not equipped to assist with. Furthermore students have many stress and sports related injuries due to studies and society related activities, as well as having vaccine needs in the form of meningitis vaccines.
Having an on-campus GP will make it easier for students to register when they arrive at university, have their health issues dealt with quickly and professionally, and ensure students have a more welcoming environment to that of an off-campus GP.
