An area within the university that is open out of hours and available to all students, regardless of where they live. This area where a student who is lonely or potentially at risk of a mental health crisis can go and spend time in an different environment with distractions available, like other people to talk to or activities such as puzzles or colouring. Manned by either staff or volunteers who are trained talk to students and have the ability to make a direct referral to the wellbeing team for later that week or can contact NHS services in urgent situations. This would not be a place where you could directly get treatment, more somewhere students can go if there are alone or feel at risk to make sure they aren't alone, letting them feel safer and lowering risk by distracting themselves from distressing thoughts but also potentially get help. There is a crisis pad already in Hull however this can be a £20 round trip in a taxi out of hours, which can be unaffordable for some students.
