Last year, Walkers, along with the recycling company TerraCycle launched a crisp packet recycling scheme. You just save up all your crisp packets and then drop them off at a collection point for TerraCycle to collect. As the packets are currently not recyclable in the true sense of the word, TerraCycle up-cycles them into different products such as plant pots, reusable shopping bags and watering cans etc.
I'm proposing that a few of these collection points are set up: in the union, the cafes, maybe even in halls. It's super-simple to sign up to, and would just require a little advertising to let people know about it. Students and the university must go through an insane amount of crisp packets every day which currently would just be thrown into the general waste bins/landfill.
Seems like this alternative would be an easy win- and it ties in neatly with the Plastic Pledge initiatives already happening!
