Crohn’s and Colitis UK have teams of volunteers based around the country raising awareness of Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis - two of the main forms of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (or IBD).



 



Join a team of like-minded people who play an important role in bringing people together locally. You’ll have the opportunity to get as hands-on as you like whether this is a general or a more specific role and on a regular or ad hoc basis. Activities can include organising events and information sessions, social activities, editing newsletters, social media, fundraising, campaigning - the list is endless! You can make a difference doing what you enjoy by bringing your expertise and interests to the team.



 



These teams are made up of those affected by IBD and others who wish to volunteer in their community. Get involved by supporting or hosting events, sharing information, and working with health professionals to promote awareness of IBD and Crohn’s and Colitis UK.

Location

This opportunity can be completed both on and off campus. The team exists throughout Hull & East Yorkshire (including Hessle, Brough, Cottingham, Beverley, Bridlington, Filey, Driffield etc. ) and arrange activities at various suitable locations.

The role is very flexible and volunteers can get involved at any time which could include evenings and weekends. All this is decided by the team of volunteers who organise and plan local events and activities.

  • Understanding and being able to explain Guide Dogs’ campaigns to members of the public

  • Distributing information on Guide Dogs’ campaigns, either at venues or at information stands. Recording the details of people who wish to be kept informed in future

  • Encouraging guide dog owners, volunteers, members of the public and other supporters to support campaigns, with guidance from Guide Dogs staff. This could include responding to consultations or writing to or meeting with local media, councillors, MPs or MSPs

  • Seeking out local stories that could be used to provide examples for the reason behind the campaign, which can then be used in the media

  • Promoting Guide Dogs campaigns  within the local community

  • Passing enquiries onto Guide Dogs staff where appropriate

  • Attending campaign group meetings

  • Using social media i.e. Facebook and Twitter to gain support and awareness from the general public.

  • Attending (and recruiting for) campaigning events, such as marches, petition days
